Another Crash in Cobb Claims the Life of 91-year-old John A. Spadafora

According to Cobb Country Police, on Sunday February 23, 91-year-old John A. Spadafora died after he was injured in a crash involving one other vehicle on Sandy Plains Road in Cobb.

Spadafora was turning left onto Davis Road in Cobb when his black Mazda truck collided with an oncoming gray Infiniti coupe, according to reports. The two vehicles crashed just after 5:30 p.m. outside the entrance to Mountain View Elementary School.

According to spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk, Spadafora was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries. In a news release on Monday, Delk reported “His condition worsened and he was pronounced deceased later in the evening at the hospital.”

For reasons unknown, the identity of the driver of the Infiniti has yet to be released. That driver was also taken to Kennestone with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. 

At this time, the investigation is ongoing. All areas of distracted driving will be investigated. Officials will investigate to see if speed or weather was a factor in the collision. At the time of the report, no charges have been filed.

This incident is the fourth deadly crash investigated in Cobb since Friday. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the first came Friday afternoon, when retired Atlanta Municipal Court judge Elaine Carlisle was killed after she lost control on the ramp from I-285 to I-75 South.

Cobb is approximately 25 miles northeast of Marietta.
