Macon Accident Caused When Delores Austin Has Medical Emergency

An accident occurred in Macon on Thursday, February 20 around 4:00 p.m.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred between two vehicles.

A GMC Terrain lost control in the middle of an intersection. The vehicle hit a Chevrolet Silverado head-on.

The driver of the GMC was 67-year-old Delores Austin of Macon. The sheriff’s office has released the cause for the accident was medical. This caused her to lose control of the vehicle.

The driver of the truck in the accident has been identified. 57-year-old Thomas Marshall was driving the Silverado. He had no passengers in his vehicle.

Both vehicles came to rest in a nearby ditch after the collision.

The GMC was traveling east on Wimbish Road toward Blanton Boulevard. Marshall was driving westbound through the intersection.

When the medical emergency happened, Austin crossed the center line. This was when she hit Marshall head-on.

Marshall did not receive any injuries during the accident. Medical personnel at the scene checked him out and released him.

The exact cause of Austin’s medical emergency has not been released.

Austin was taken to the Medical Center Navient Health. While in the care of the hospital staff, they pronounced her dead.

The medical examiner has not verified Austin’s cause of death. Reports do not indicate if the injuries in the accident were severe. It is possible that the underlying medical condition caused her death.

There is no report on if the drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help with the accident. Anyone who may have information is urged to call to report it.

The accident investigation is ongoing for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The road was opened back up shortly after the accident. There were very few delays reported.
