Motorcyclist Steven Fitzgerald Dies in Cobb County Crash; Stanley Anderson, Michael Tucker Injured


Police officers in Cobb County are looking into a fatal accident that occurred near an apartment complex on the East-West Connector on Sunday night.

It happened near the entrance to the Tramore Village Apartments in Austell, Georgia just before 7:30 p.m.

A spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department, Sgt. Wayne Delk, said 50-year-old Steven Fitzgerald was heading west on his 2013 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle.

As he approached the entrance to the apartments, a 2018 Toyota Tacoma going east turned left into the complex in front of Fitzgerald’s motorcycle. The front of the Harley crashed into the right side of the Toyota.

Police reports indicate Fitzgerald died at the scene. It is not known whether he was wearing a helmet or other protective gear.

Meanwhile, twenty-six-year-old Stanley Anderson who was driving the Tacoma, was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell. His injuries were minor.

However, Anderson’s passenger 24-year-old Michael Tucker suffered serious injuries and was transported to the same hospital.

Cobb County police have not revealed whether charges will be filed against anyone. They have asked anyone with information about the crash to contact them at 770-499-3987.

Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable and bike accidents often result in serious injuries throughout the country.

In 2018, 154 motorcyclists lost died on Georgia’s roads. This is according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. These stats compare to 139 fatalities in 2017 and 172 in 2016. In most of 2018’s fatal accidents, the cyclists were wearing helmets.
