On-Duty Police Officer Adam Jackson Injured After Crashing into a Tree

A police officer encountered a non-fatal vehicle-tree collision while responding to a gun confrontation on Simons Island in Glynn County, Georgia. According to the accident reports, the crash took place on Tuesday, April 14.

The Glynn County Police Department reported that the incident began just before 8:30 pm, when a call came in, reporting a man brandishing a gun at Parker’s grocery store.

The accident victim, Officer Adam Jackson, was en route the store, located on 501 Ocean Boulevard in a 2019 Dodge Charger patrol car, in response to the 911 call.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper, Damascus Chambers confirmed that there was a rainstorm at the time, and the deputy was traveling east on Demere road, with the lights and sirens of his patrol car activated.

Just as the officer approached the intersection of Demere Road and Ocean Boulevard, his vehicle drifted off the road and slammed into a tree on the other side of the intersection.

The impact severely dented the front driver’s side of the cruiser. Jackson sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries, but was not faulted for the crash as he was on emergency response duty.

Authorities said the weapon reported earlier turned out to be a toy. The possessor of the toy gun, Jacob Exum Hillis, a 42-year-old Simmons Island resident, was eventually arrested and booked into the Glynn County Detention Center, according to the accident reports.

Hillis faces one charge of criminal trespass, as per jail records.
