A single-vehicle crash in Walker County, Northwest Georgia, on Tuesday, March 3rd, left a man dead. The Georgia State Patrol investigators identified him as Robert Bourget, a native of South Carolina.
Bourget was visiting Georgia and driving a rental car when the accident that ended his life happened. The GSP stated that he was heading north on Highway 341 in the Kensington area when he lost control around a curve at about 8:30 p.m.
The vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree. When first responders got to the scene, they found Bourget unresponsive and pronounced him dead.
The GSP has not stated if alcohol and drugs played a role in the accident. They are heading the investigation into the crash and trying to piece together what made the deceased lose control of the car.
Car accidents are not uncommon in the state of Georgia. Statistics have shown that an average of over 70 drivers get hurt from auto crashes by the hour, and more than 1,720 people are involved in accidents every day.
The cars commonly involved in accidents in the state are passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, special utility vehicles, and tractor-trailers. Others are single unit large trucks, motorcycles and motorized bikes, bus, panel trucks, truck tractors, and bicycles.
Leading causes of accidents in Georgia include drivers following each other tightly, failure to yield the way to other motorists, and drivers losing control of their vehicles. Others are improper lane change, unsafe or illegal speed, animal sighting, disobeying traffic signs, and weather conditions.
