Rondrick Dixon, 37, Dies in Head-on Collision

A man was pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision in Walthourville, GA on Sunday night.

He has been identified as 37-year-old Rondrick Dixon of Liberty County.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Lyle Thurmond said Dixon’s 2007 Chevy Impala was heading west on E. B. Cooper Highway towards Walthourville.

His vehicle swerved into the eastbound lane and collided with a 1999 Chevy Silverado pickup truck operated by 35-year-old Robert Stauffer.  Stauffer was driving in the direction of Riceboro.

Upon impact, the Impala split into two pieces and came to rest on the grassy shoulder of the road. The rear wheels were left facing upwards while the front end landed right side up.

First responders found Dixon lying on the road with fatal injuries. He was later pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel who tried to revive him.

The authorities say Dixon was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Stauffer was taken by ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

According to statistics from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, there were 1, 766 crashes in Liberty County in 2017. These accidents resulted in 741 total injuries. in comparison, there were 1,627 accidents in 2016 and 666 injuries.

The stats show that the number of crashes and injuries increased each year from 2013 to 2017.

In 2017, there were a record-high 14 traffic fatalities in the county compared to eight in each of the two previous years. No data was available for more recent years.
