A traffic accident which occurred on Monday morning, involving a motorcycle and a towing vehicle traveling along Deans Bridge Road in the Augusta region of Richmond County, Georgia, has left a sheriff’s deputy seriously injured. The dire incident was recorded on Monday, March 30, as reported by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities released in a statement that the accident took place at precisely 8:16 am, and did not result in any fatality.
According to the sheriff’s report, an on-duty deputy was riding his Sheriff’s office motorcycle through the north travel lanes on Deans Bridge Road when a vehicle pulling a trailer suddenly emerged from the Richmond County Landfill, onto his path.
Before the officer could halt his motorcycle, he crashed into the side of the trailer and was ejected from the bike.
The motorcycle operator sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the collision and was transported to Augusta University Medical Center for adequate medical attention.
The sheriff’s office confirmed that the injured deputy has been discharged from the hospital, and was convalescing in his home.
The identity of the motorcycle deputy, who has reportedly served in the sheriff’s office for about twelve years, beginning 2008, was disclosed as Phillip Wasson.
No information was released regarding the identity and injury status of the motorist operating the towing vehicle.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s office is still investigating the almost fatal collision to ascertain the cause and liability of the crash.
