An accident on the night of Tuesday, March 3rd, at Interstate 75 North, Macon, Georgia, injured one person, with the other unscathed. The latter is Eozian Anatoli, 31, and the former, Tareme Doyle, 42.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about the crash at about 7 p.m. According to Lieutenant Sean Defoe, they arrived at the scene to find that a box truck driven by Doyle, rear-ended a flatbed tractor-trailer driven by Anatoli.
A preliminary investigation uncovered that the trailer was traveling north on Interstate 75 when it suddenly crossed over into the middle lane. It came directly into the path of the truck, and without enough time to stop, Doyle struck it from behind.
The man was not wearing a seatbelt, and the impact of the collision left him with injuries. Defoe did not state the extent of the driver’s injury but acknowledged that he had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
Before leaving, Doyle was cited for driving without wearing a seatbelt. Anatoli, on the other hand, went unscathed; he refused medical checkup and was cited for failure to maintain the lane.
The accident affected two lanes, which the Georgia State Patrol closed off until about 11 p.m. while they cleared out the roadway. Defoe did not state if the sheriff’s office will continue to investigate the crash.
Georgia traffic laws frown against drivers changing lanes without a clear path. The O.C.G.A S40-6-48 provides that a driver should maintain a single lane and avoid switching until he or she can ascertain that a switch can be done safely.
Failure to obey the above comes with a ticket fine and three points on the offender’s driving license.
