Officers of the Bibb County Sheriff’s office have been thrown into a state of mourning following the demise of a Georgia Sheriff’s deputy who was tragically killed after his car slammed into a concrete wall while responding to a burglary call. The fatal crash took place at about 1:30 am on Wednesday, March 18, along Forsyth Road.
According to the county’s Sheriff office, the deadly incident happened during an emergency response to a burglary in progress. The deputy reportedly lost control of his vehicle, a police cruiser, during his law enforcement mission, and crashed violently into a wall.
The force of the collision made the cruiser roll over, ejecting its driver in the process before coming to a halt near the intersection of Forsyth Road and Rivoli Drive.
The 27-year-old police officer died on the scene before he could be transferred to a hospital. No other casualty was recorded in the incident.
Authorities disclosed the name of the Bibb County fatal victim as Deputy Kenterrous Taylor. The county’s Sheriff, David Davis, revealed in a press statement that the deceased officer was off-duty at the time of the crash, going by his shift records.
Officers are yet to determine what caused the deputy’s cruiser to spiral out of control. The tragic accident remains under investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Eyewitnesses with useful information regarding the incident were implored to contact the Sheriff’s office or Macon Regional Crimestoppers to facilitate the investigations.
