The Georgia State Patrol has identified the victim in a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon.
He is Daniel Newport, a 32-year-old resident of Dalton, according to accident reports.
The accident occurred on U.S. 41 in Ringgold, near Clearview Drive, at 12:47 p.m.
Tiffany Bright, also 32 and of Dalton, has been arrested in connection with Newport’s death.
Newport was a passenger in Bright’s vehicle, investigators have revealed.
Bright is facing a long list of felony and misdemeanor charges including:
- Vehicular homicide
- DUI drugs
- Serious injury by vehicle
- Driving on wrong side of roadway
- Failure to maintain lane
- Failure to exercise due care
- Reckless driving
- Possession of less than one ounce of marijuana
Law enforcement officials say Bright went over the center line and hit a car head-on. The two people in the car, an unnamed 63-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, were taken to Erlanger Medical Center.
No information was released about their condition.
The crash remains under investigation and more information could be provided in subsequent accident reports.
The road was reopened around 3:30 p.m.
Bright could be slapped with a number of criminal penalties if she is convicted including incarceration and high fines.
