An elderly woman who was reported missing by her family died in an accident on Tuesday morning in Fort Valley, Georgia.
Georgia State Patrol said they received a report of the crash at the intersection of Housers Mill Road and Russell Parkway around 8:25 a.m.
They said 86-year-old Sallie Brinkley ran through a stop sign and then crashed into a ravine. Her vehicle was the only one involved in the accident.
Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks said workers who saw the vehicle in the ravine called the police. He pointed out that the vehicle would not have been visible from the road.
Brinkley’s family in Central Georgia had been worried about their elderly relative who lived in Warner Robins.
They started searching for her on Monday morning.
Christina Rosen, Brinkley’s granddaughter, said the elderly woman had dinner with the family as usual on Sunday. She called later to say she had arrived home safely.
However, friends and workmen noticed that Brinkley wasn’t answering her phone or coming outside on Monday morning.
Her son-in-law went to the house to check on her and noticed that both her car and her purse were gone. The family quickly called the police and started calling the media for help.
Meanwhile, the Warner Robins Police Department asked Houston, Peach, and Bibb counties to look out for the elderly woman.
Relatives now believe Brinkley went to pick up her medication and got lost.
The coroner said it’s possible that Brinkley crashed on Sunday, but no one saw the car until Tuesday.
Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident.
