A teen boy died this week, a few days after he crashed a dirt bike near his home in Palatine, authorities have reported.
Andrew Marton, 16, of Palatine, died Tuesday from injuries sustained in a crash that occurred over the weekend, according to car accident reports from the Palatine Police Department. No other vehicles were involved and no additional injuries were reported.
Authorities said Andrew Marton and his father, Adam Marton, were driving a dirt bike near his home just before 2 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Lytle Drive. Andrew Marton reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree, car accident reports stated.
Police said Andrew Marton was taken to a nearby hospital before being airlifted to a regional trauma center. He was declared brain dead Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.
“Andrew was a handsome, athletic, smart, loving boy,” loved ones wrote in a GoFundMe campaign page to raise money to cover medical expenses. “He was taken too soon from the ones that loved him.”
The campaign had nearly reached its fundraising goal of $60,000 in a little more than one day.
Andrew Marton’s organs were donated. A donor advocacy group hosted a ceremony Wednesday recognizing the late Palatine teen.
The Palatine High School sophomore was an “integral part” of a local hockey team, the sports club posted to Facebook.
“Andrew always came to the rink with a smile on his face and excited to play the great game of hockey,” club officials wrote in a Facebook post.
