The Illinois State Police District 12 in a Wednesday, July 22nd, press release revealed that a male driver suffered injuries after a rear-end collision north of Centralia, Illinois. They stated that they expect Brandon M. Hilmes, 49, to recover fully from his wounds.

The car accident report placed the time of the accident at about 8:30 p.m. on US Route 51 and Community Beach Road on Tuesday, July 21st. The man was behind the wheel of a silver 2010 Honda SUV stopped on the southbound lane of the highway, waiting to turn left. The car was still stationary when a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by 32-year-old Lawrence Simms slammed into it from behind.

The ISP said that both drivers are residents of Centralia. Hilmes sustained injuries, and an ambulance conveyed him to an area hospital for treatment. Simms refused medical treatment alongside three passengers in her vehicle. A fourth passenger in the Ford, identified as 18-year-old Imani D. Davis, suffered injuries and received treatment in a hospital.

The state police did not state if they cited the second driver for the accident or would bring a charge against her later. The investigation remains active. Rear-end collisions are one of the leading causes of traffic accidents. Crashes of this nature occur mostly with drivers speeding and failing to stop in time to avoid an accident. Those with liability often face a charge of failure to reduce speed and are liable to appear in court and pay a fine.
