Chetankumbar S. Patel Killed in Hanover Park Pedestrian Accident


A Streamwood man was killed in a vehicle-pedestrian accident that took place in Hanover Park on the night of Tuesday, March 24. According to the details shared by the Hanover Park police, the victim was identified as Chetankumbar S. Patel, 46, of Streamwood.

The incident took place close to the intersection of the East Avenue and the Irving Park Road. Patel was apparently crossing the roadway when he was hit by a vehicle. The incident occurred late at night and was reported to the authorities at around 11:18 p.m. EMS and rescue personnel arrived at the scene and transported Patel to the St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Patel had suffered serious injuries and couldn’t recover. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at around 11:53 p.m.

A statement from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that cause of the death was multiple injuries. It is not clear at this point whether this was a hit-and-run case or if the driver stayed on the scene of the accident. So far, the authorities have only confirmed that a 70-year-old driver was involved in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed nor have any citations been issued in the case. A number of agencies are collaborating in the investigation of the incident. These include Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigation Team as well as Hanover Park detectives with the local police. Once the investigations conclude, it will be clear whether the driver involved in the accident was guilty of any negligence.
