On Friday, July 31st, a Kane County Court ordered Lance C. Neal, 28, to pay a $1 million bail bond at his bail hearing for his role in an accident in Elgin, Illinois. The suspect who requires a car accident lawyer’s service must pay 10% of that amount to post bond.
Neal is facing a count of reckless homicide after he fled from the scene of an accident on Tuesday, July 28th. The accident report showed that the collision occurred in the west suburb after the suspect struck a car near Chicago and Spring Streets, and left the scene.
The Kane County State’s Attorney said that after leaving the first crash site, the man fled south on Raymond Street, driving at 30 miles per hour beyond the speed limit. The driver of the struck vehicle followed Neal and waved down an officer who pursued the suspect.
At about 5:45 p.m., the man lost control of his car and struck two bicycle riders at the intersection of Raymond Drive and Purify Drive. One of the cyclists, identified as Sandra Sampey, 52, sustained severe wounds and died in a hospital. The second cyclist, a 58-year-old man, survived with severe injuries and remained in critical condition. The two victims are from Bartlett.
The prosecutors said that Neal abandoned his car at the collision site and ran off. Officers with the Elgin Police tracked him down two hours later and took him into custody. In addition to the charge of reckless homicide, the suspect faces a felony count each for failure to report an accident causing death, aggravated fleeing, and driving without insurance.
The man would appear in court on Friday, August 7th, for the second time. The Illinois State Police is handling the case, and there’s no additional information at this time.
