A pedestrian lost his life in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on the I-94. The fatal incident occurred in the early morning hours on Friday and was reported to the authorities at around 12:04 a.m. The deceased was identified by Illinois State Police as Devin Polk, 27, of Chicago as per the early accident reports.

According to ISP, the whole thing began when a vehicle rear-ended another vehicle in the southbound lane of I-94. The front vehicle that was rear-ended was identified as a black 2013 Hyundai. The vehicle that struck the Hyundai from behind was identified as a 2018 silver Ford.

Following the collision, the individuals occupying the Ford abandoned their vehicle and left the scene on foot. The Hyundai driver pulled over at the side to report the accident to the authorities.

It was then that Devin Polk appeared close to the 2018 Ford vehicle. He was on the roadway and on foot when a 2009 green Subaru hit him. Polk sustained critical injuries in the hit. Once the first responders arrived on the scene of the incident, attempts to revive him failed. He was pronounced dead and his death was ruled an accident by the Medical Examiner’s office.

The Subaru that struck Polk drove off the road towards the right. The occupants of the vehicle then abandoned it and left on foot. It is not clear whether Polk was related to the occupants who had earlier abandoned Ford or to the Hyundai affected in the first collision. ISP continues to investigate the incident and subsequent accident reports may reveal who was liable in the incident.
