Richard Mclaughlin Seriously Injured In Single-Vehicle Motorcycle Crash Near Brighton

An Illinois motorcyclist was seriously injured early Friday morning in a single-vehicle wreck on a state highway near Brighton, according to authorities.

Richard E. McLaughlin, 45, of Brighton, suffered serious injuries in the wreck, which was reported just before 5:30 a.m. Friday, the Illinois State Police reported. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries were listed in car accident reports available Friday evening.

Troopers said McLaughlin was riding a motorcycle south on Illinois 255 near mile marker 12 at 5:28 a.m. Friday when he lost control of the vehicle. The motorcycle veered off the road and into the highway’s median, where it rolled over, according to car accident reports.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, according to authorities. McLaughlin ultimately was taken via air ambulance to an area trauma center for treatment of wounds described in car accident reports as serious.

An updated condition report for McLaughlin wasn’t available Friday afternoon. It wasn’t clear whether he was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck.

The Illinois State Police continues to investigate the incident. They have not yet said whether factors like intoxication, speed or inattentive driving are thought to have contributed to the wreck.

No citations or charges were listed in car accident reports available Friday evening. Additional details likely will be included in future investigative documents released by the state agency.
