Shasta Hawes Faces Charges for Fatal DUI Accident in Clark County

In a press release by the Illinois State Police during the weekend, they disclosed that a female motorist faces several charges for a fatal DUI accident. The crash, which involved 27-year-old Shasta Hawes of Paris, happened in Clark County, Illinois, on Saturday, October 3rd.

The ISP said that officers responded to reports of a single-car crash around 10:49 p.m. on 1540   East Road, just north of Wilderness Road. During the preliminary investigation, the police uncovered that the suspect drove a black 2013 Jeep south on 1540-ER.

Hawes lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road in a curve. The car flipped over and rested on its roof. The state police said that impact ejected a 26-year-old female passenger identified as Alissa Griffith of Terre Haute.

The woman sustained fatal injuries, and the Clark County Coroner pronounced her dead at the crash site. The suspect and another passenger identified as 23-year-old Brandon Devall of Terre Haute did not sustain any injury from the accident.

The release stated that the officers determined Hawes was impaired when she drove and placed her under arrest. They charged her with reckless homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and improper lane usage. She would need a drunk driving attorney’s services.

There is no additional information on the occurrence at the time of this report, but the investigation continues. Under Illinois law, driving while impaired is a severe offense with strict penalties, and offenders who also face a homicide charge face a lengthy time in prison.
