Stacy Phillips injured in Accident Involving a Deer in Macon County

A woman sustained injuries after an early morning accident on a roadway in Macon County, Illinois. The accident report showed that Stacy Phillips, 44, crashed her car on Thursday morning, June 25th, after hitting a deer that suddenly appeared on the roadway.

According to the county police, the collision happened on Interstate 72 at milepost 132 at 7:56 a.m. Phillips was traveling on the eastbound lane of the roadway when she struck the deer and went on to hit a tree.

Medics took the woman to the hospital, and there’s no update on her condition. The accident led to the roadway’s closure for 20 minutes and reopened it after clearing the scene.

There are several causes of motor vehicle accidents ranging from negligent behaviors of drivers to unforeseen circumstances. Animal sighting falls under the latter, and it is most common on rural roadways. However, wildlife sometimes appears in city highways, making it prudent to know the best ways to deal with it.

When driving, either at dusk or dawn, look to the road ahead and occasionally scan the surroundings to see if an animal is about to enter the roadway. If there’s no oncoming traffic, use high beam lights; this gives a driver enough visibility and enables him or her to stop in time to avoid colliding with wildlife.

If a collision is unavoidable, apply the brakes, maintain the same lane, and do not swerve. Always drive sober, wear a seatbelt, remain awake, and alert, and drive cautiously still.
