One person sustained injuries while another went unscathed in a two-vehicle collision on a roadway in the Grundy County area of Illinois on Wednesday, June 24th. The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office identified the two as Ingrid Bryant, 61, of Minooka, and Joseph Baert, 33, of Aurora.
The car accident report revealed that the crash occurred at the intersection of Sherrill Road and Brisbin Road at about 7:52 a.m. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle driven by Bryant lying in a ditch on its driver’s side. Morris Fire and EMS had to extricate her from the car, and they conveyed her to Morris Hospital for evaluation.
Baert, who remained at the scene, was uninjured and refused medical attention. The sheriff’s office cited the man for disobeying a stop sign, and he has a mandatory court appearance on Monday, July 27th. There is no additional information.
Under Illinois law, it is a traffic offense for a driver to disobey a stop sign or red light at an intersection. The law expects a driver to make a complete stop before reaching a marked stop line or entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection. If there’s no stop line or crosswalk, stop before entering the intersection.
The law also allows a motorist to make a right turn after stopping at a red light, as long as there’s no prohibiting it. The punishment for violating the law is a fine and points on the offender’s driving record.
