Wrong-Way Collision on Route 130 Injures Clinton Barnhart

A man got injured in a wrong-way collision that took place in the Cumberland County. The unfortunate incident occurred close to Greenup on Monday, July 29.

According to the details shared by the authorities, the incident was reported in the morning at around 7:00 a.m. The drivers of both vehicles involved in the incident were identified. These included Clinton Barnhart, 24, of Kankakee and Kyle Stewart, 33, of Charleston.

Barnhart was driving a pickup truck at the time of the collision while Stewart’s vehicle was identified as a sport utility vehicle. Barnhart was traveling southbound on the Route 130, close to the County Road 900N. It was then that Steward, headed southbound, crossed the center line of the road and came into the path of Clinton Barnhart.

The ensuing collision caused damage to both vehicles. However, Barnhart was fortunate to sustain only minor injuries. Steward remained largely safe in the incident and had no injuries to report.

Following the incident, authorities shut down the northbound lanes of the Route 130 as on-site investigations were conducted. Traffic on the road was routed through a single lane until the investigations were concluded and both lanes became open nearly an hour later.

Illinois State Police continues to investigate the incident. The focus of the investigations at this point is to determine how and why Steward lost control of the vehicle and collided with Clinton Barnhart’s pickup. Barnhart may have a liability claim in this case to cover damage to his car and his injuries.
