Zantea Jackson-Pool Charged After Detroit Wreck That Killed 2 Children

An Ohio woman was arrested on multiple charges this weekend after a crash in Detroit that claimed the lives of two of her young children, according to authorities.

Zantea M. Jackson-Pool, 23, of Toledo, Ohio, was charged Saturday, two days after the Detroit wreck that killed her 2-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. She was arraigned on multiple charges Sunday, authorities said.

Jackson-Pool will continue to be represented during court proceedings by a car injury attorney.

Police said Jackson-Pool was driving west on Agnes Street in Detroit at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday when she ran through a stop sign at Field Street. She crashed into another vehicle that was traveling on Field Street, according to authorities.

The force of the collision pushed both vehicles off the road and Jackson-Pool’s vehicle flipped over, authorities said.

Three children were in Jackson-Pool’s vehicle at the time of the wreck. Two of the kids – a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old died – while Jackson-Pool’s 5-year-old daughter suffered serious injuries. Authorities said none of the children were properly restrained.

The two occupants of the other vehicle, identified in reports only as a woman and a man, suffered minor injuries. Jackson-Pool and her 19-year-old woman passenger also were injured.

Jackson-Pool on Saturday was charged with two counts of reckless driving causing death, two counts of driving with a suspended license causing death, two counts of reckless driving causing serious injury, three counts of second-degree child abuse and two counts of driving with a suspended license causing serious injury, prosecutors said.

It is unclear from court records available Sunday whether Jackson-Pool has secured the services of a car injury attorney.
