Authorities have now revealed the identity of the unfortunate driver who lost her life in a fiery crash that took place on Thursday, February 20. The victim has been identified as Diane Bommarito, 59, of Parma.
Diane Bommarito was driving on the Springport Road in the Blackman Township area when her vehicle ran into an accident. According to the details shared by the authorities, Bommarito crossed the center line of the road for some reason. Her car struck a van in the oncoming lane and then caught fire.
The incident took place close to the Baker College West Entrance. The authorities responded to the crash at about 2:30 p.m.
After her vehicle caught fire, Bommarito was trapped inside it. She was rescued only once help and rescue personnel arrived on the scene of the crash. By this time, Bommarito had sustained critical injuries.
She was rushed to the Henry Ford Allegiance Health hospital via ambulance. At the hospital, she was pronounced dead. The driver of the van which was hit by Bommarito’s vehicle also sustained injuries. However, he was discharged following treatment at the hospital and is reported as out of danger.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident. It is unclear at this point exactly what caused Bommarito to cross the center line and enter the path of the oncoming traffic. Police have also not ruled out the usual causes like speeding, alcohol or medical conditions. More details are expected once the police conclude their investigations of the crash.
