Police Identify Person Killed Last Week In Manistique Crash As Brandon Burt


Authorities on Monday released the identity of the man killed in a single-vehicle wreck last week near Manistique.

Brandon Burt, 33, of Manistique, died from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred Wednesday, Feb. 26, on Schoolcraft County 442, according to authorities. He was identified by officials Monday afternoon.

Police said Burt was traveling eastbound on the county road at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and struck some trees, ejecting Burt.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Responders from several agencies were called to the scene. That includes Michigan State Polife from the Gladstone post, the Sault Tribal Police, Inwood Township Fire Department, Emergency Medical Service and Manistique Public Safety.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused Burt to lose control of his vehicle, leave the roadway and crash into nearby trees. Police will continue to investigation the conditions that led to the wreck.
