Bessy E. Lainez, 33, of Fort Worth, died at the scene of the crash Friday morning on U.S. 60 near Bovina, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported Monday. A passenger in her vehicle also suffered serious injuries, according to authorities.
Car accident reports state Lainez at about 9:45 a.m. Friday was stopped on FM 1381 at the intersection with U.S. 60. As she was turning onto the highway’s eastbound lanes, her pickup truck was struck by a semi-tractor trailer, troopers reported.
The force of the crash propelled Lainez’ vehicle across the westbound lanes of U.S. 60 and it came to a rest on FM 1381, authorities said. The semi stopped in the highway’s median.
Lainez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Her passenger, Vincente Oropreza-Diaz, 33, of Fort Worth, was transported via ambulance to Parmer County Community Hospital for treatment of injuries described by authorities as serious.
