A ten-year-old girl who died after receiving national media attention for making masks for healthcare workers has been laid to rest, according to accident reports out of Texas.

Lexi Collins, of Munday, was reportedly killed in an ATV accident on April 17.

However, no information was provided about the crash. It is not known where the accident occurred or if anyone else was involved.

The little girl won the hearts of many when it was revealed that she sewed around 100 masks for people in Knox County and nearby areas. Among the recipients was Anson General Hospital which expressed gratitude publicly.

Collins said she was inspired by the nurses in her family including her mother, grandmother, aunt, and uncle.

Munday City Councilwoman Karen Logan described her as a remarkable girl who was wise beyond her youthful age, talented and always smiling.

Collins leaves behind her parents Jacy and Jara Collins, siblings Talan and Grayson, and grandparents Jerry and Rachel Gray.

Her funeral service was held early last week, and residents tied turquoise ribbons on trees in her honor. Turquoise was her favorite color.

According to an obituary posted on the Facebook page of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home, anyone who attended had to wear a face mask, engage in physical distancing, and self-quarantine for 14 days after.

Interment followed at Johnson Memorial Cemetery.

Fundraising efforts are ongoing fora bronze memorial in Collins’ honor. It will be erected in Centennial Park.

It is unclear if more information about the ATV accident will be released in police accident reports.
