Police in San Antonio say 65-year-old Oralia Gonzalez Castillo died on Wednesday after being hit by a pickup truck in the northeast of the city.

She had just bought breakfast tacos from a restaurant when the accident occurred around 6 a.m.

Police were initially told there was an individual lying on Nacogdoches Road just south of Wurzbach Parkway.

When officers got to the scene, they discovered the woman was injured in a vehicular accident.

Sergeant Walter Smith said Oralia Gonzalez Castillo was crossing the street when she was struck.

The truck and the driver remained on the scene and Smith said the man was fully cooperating with police.

Police said from all reports, Gonzalez Castillo was not on a crosswalk and the street was dark.

Smith said it did not appear a crime had been committed but officers would look into everything as always.

Accident investigators were on the scene for more than an hour taking measurements and collecting evidence in an effort to figure out how the crash happened.

They reportedly found thread marks in the roadway, suggesting that the driver had tried to brake.

The impact of the crash knocked Gonzalez Castillo out of her boots and sent her bag of tacos flying into the air.

A worker at the restaurant said the victim appeared to be on her way to work across the street at a food processing plant.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness said he often saw workers crossing the street in that area and he was concerned someone would get hurt.
