Police Determine Enrique Hernandez Died in Austin Car Accident

A previously unidentified man whose body was found in suspicious circumstances is now known to be 20-year-old Enrique Hernandez. According to the most recent accident reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety, he is a resident of Austin.

Officers have determined that Hernandez was a pedestrian on April 13 when he was struck by a vehicle just outside the city.

Workers had discovered the body in a ditch at the side of the roadway. At the time, medical examiners were unable to determine how the body ended up in that location or how the victim died.

However, officials from DPS now say an unknown vehicle hit the young man on Farm to Market Road 3177 in Travis County.

Hernandez fell off the roadway and the driver kept going. No debris or skid marks were left behind to indicate there had been an accident.

DPS did not say how they later learned what really happened. However, investigations are ongoing.

When Hernandez’s body was discovered, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office said the condition of the body indicated the victim didn’t die of natural causes.

Officials decided to treat the case as a homicide until more was known. The Sheriff’s Office had appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

If the driver is found, they will likely face criminal charges. Their identification could also give Hernandez’s family the ability to seek compensation with help from a car accident lawyer.

Details will be provided in subsequent accident reports if more information is released.
