Tyneshia Chatman Charged with Son’s Murder Months After Crash

Police charged a Wichita Falls, Texas mother with murder on Monday, accident reports say.

She is 28-year-old Tyneshia Chatman.

The charge stems from a December 20, 2019 crash that claimed the life of her four-year-old son Christian Redmond.

According to records, Migel Julianna Matthew was the driver and Chatman was a passenger.  Five children including the victim were also in the car that crashed on the Henry S. Grace Freeway.

Five of the people in the car were thrown out and they suffered minor injuries. However, Redmond died on the spot.

The affidavit says first responders detected a strong scent of alcohol coming from the vehicle and they could also smell liquor on Matthew’s breath.

Multiple bottles of alcoholic beverages were discovered around the accident scene and investigations showed that the driver drank before driving.

The investigating officer said his training and experience indicated that there was no reason for the fatal car accident except Matthew’s intoxication.

Matthew was charged with intoxication manslaughter the day following the crash and she was released on bond. The state upgraded the charge to murder on Monday.

Meanwhile, Chatman was indicted on a single murder charge and four counts of abandoning and endangering a child.

Matthew and Chatman were booked into Wichita County Jail on a $100,000 bond each.

They could spend their lives in prison if convicted.

It is not yet clear when they will return to court but any updates will be published in future accident reports.
