A 46-year-old woman died on Friday morning after her car was struck by an 18-wheeler.
The driver has been arrested, according to accident reports out of Texas.
The victim is Donna Falkenberg and the crash occurred at 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 10 near Dominion.
The suspect, 29-year-old Justin Antwan Jackson, has been charged with failure to stop and render aid.
Jackson’s arrest affidavit said he was traveling south in the outermost right lane when he came near the stalled Fiesta. Falkenberg had her hazard lights on.
The suspect told police he tried to avoid another car that seemed to be crossing into his lane and he didn’t see the Fiesta until it was too late.
The 18-wheel rear-ended the Ford and caused the trunk of the car to collapse, the affidavit indicates.
Officials said the impact caused the Ford to spin in a counter-clockwise direction and be shoved sideways for 200 feet.
Jackson allegedly fled the scene in the truck, but the authorities tracked him down during a city-wide search.
He was found in downtown San Antonio at the intersection of Bowie and E. Crockett Streets and taken into custody.
The affidavit said Jackson admitted that he was involved in the accident and that he failed to remain on the scene and render aid.
According to the authorities, Jackson left the scene in an effort to chase the vehicle he believed contributed to the crash.
He also reportedly said that he knew he should have stayed, but his employer told him to lie.
Jackson claimed he was not sure if the Ford was occupied but he found out that the victim from the news, the affidavit states.
However, officials said Jackson still failed to call 911 after that.
At the last report, he was awaiting indictment. More information could come in subsequent accident reports.
