A semi-truck crash took the lives of two Texas women on January 6, 2020. Another woman received serious injuries in the accident, which took place around 8:20 p.m. Monday on US 287 near Hedley.

Martha Ayala-Garcia, 30, of Fort Worth, was driving her Nissan Rogue, eastbound through a construction zone. Samantha Petters, 30, and Shu Wou, 34, both from Arlington, were passengers in the car.

Donald Gumfory, 47, of Burleson was driving westbound in a 2015 Volvo truck tractor, which was towing a semi-trailer.

Ayala-Garcia apparently veered south and went off the road. She then lost control of the Rogue when she over-corrected the steering. She wound up in the westbound lane of traffic, going north.

Gumfory was unable to stop in time and struck the car on the passenger side. He did not sustain significant injuries.

Both Petters and Ayala-Garcia and died on scene. Wou received life-threatening injuries. She was air-lifted to Northwest Texas Hospital.

Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are continuing to investigate the ultimate cause of this semi-truck crash.
