Kevin Dravenstott, a 37-year-old resident of Kirbyville, was tragically killed in a crash involving a wrong-way driver on Tuesday.
He was traveling along Highway 87 in a Nissan passenger vehicle when he was hit by a 2011 Nissan pickup truck. That vehicle was driven by 25-year-old Austin Lewis who collided with Dravenstott when he crossed the center dividing line.
Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are investigating the crash which occurred about three miles north of Trout Creek.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Dravenstott was heading south while Lewis was going north.
DPS said Lewis crossed the center line for “an unknown reason”.
Dravenstott was declared dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Brenda Smith.
Lewis, also of Kirbyville, suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital. There has been no update on his condition or whether he will face charges.
The investigation is ongoing ,and troopers are working to determine exactly what contributed to the crash.
According to an obituary posted online, Dravenstott lived in Kirbyville for 27 years and he was a millwright in the sawmill industry.
His survivors include his significant other, his parents, children and siblings.
