The morning of Wednesday, March 18th, in Cobb County, California, saw an 85-year-old man lose his life in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident. The authorities identified him as Kap Suh of Kennesaw.
According to Sergeant Wayne Delk, the spokesman of the Cobb County Police, Suh died from his wounds at the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He was taken to the hospital after the accident by first responders.
The report by the police showed that the deceased at about 7:15 a.m. was walking across Chastain Road at Kennesaw State University. At the same time, Christopher Bowen, 53, of Cartersville, was driving a Chevrolet box truck on the roadway.
The driver was in the company of Craig Jackson, 54, of Acworth. Delk said that when the traffic light turned green for Bowen, the man drove forward, and the front of his truck hit Suh, sending him into the intersection.
The driver and his passenger were uninjured in the collision, and there’s no current information on the liability of Bowen. The crash is still under investigation at the time of this report.
Statistics have shown that older people are more likely to die from injuries sustained in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident than any other age group. Another factor that contributes is the height of the pedestrian, and where he or she stood relative to the front of the car at the time of the crash.
A vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident leaves victims with severe traumatic injuries to the upper and lower body, which is harder for older people. Traffic authorities have advised older citizens to use the crosswalk and sidewalks and only cross when they have the right of way.
