A suspected DUI driver was detained on Wednesday night for a list of offences after speeding recklessly along Interstate 75 and leading the Marietta Police on a long chase, which ended in the wreckage of at least two vehicles including a patrol car. The incident took place at about 11 pm on Wednesday, March 18, in Cobb County, California.

A spokesperson for the Marietta police stated that several emergency calls came in just before 11pm, reporting a motorist driving aggressively on the interstate while crashing into other vehicles and jumping lanes without cause.

Officers dispatched to the area discovered the said driver straddling two lanes while moving at an estimated speed of 90mph, which was above the safe speed limit, making him a danger to other motorists.

A police deputy flagged him the blue light in an attempt to stop the reckless driver, but he fled. As a result, several patrol cars tailed him in pursuit, until he slammed into the rear of a sheriff’s patrol car, propelling him to a stop.

Both vehicles were severely dented in the rear-end collision, blocking off the south lanes of I-75 for over half an hour. No casualty was recorded in the encounter.

The culprit was, however, trapped in his wrecked vehicle until police got him out through the sunroof. It was deduced that the driver was intoxicated at the time as he reportedly reeked of alcohol.

The DUI driver, identified as Stanley Richard Whary, was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and released the next day on a bond of $11,220.
