Mary Frances Stenson, 84, Found Dead Following House Fire in Macon

An 84-year-old woman died in a fire accident on Wednesday night at her home located in the Macon area of Bibb County, Georgia. The fire accident reports obtained from the Macon-Bibb Fire Department confirmed that the incident took place on Wednesday, April 8.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, fire department personnel were dispatched to the location at about 10 pm after a passerby reported the burning building.

Upon their arrival at the Thomaston Road home, they successfully contained the fire with some efforts, before going in to access the damages.

During their inspection, the fire rescue team discovered the fire-grazed body of a woman. Officials later identified the fatal victim as the homeowner, Mary Frances Stenson, 84.

Investigators determined that Stenson attempted to escape the fire through the left exit of the house, but succumbed to the heat and smoke before she could make it out.

Two firefighters were hospitalised after the rescue operation, one for smoke inhalation and the other for severe cuts sustained in the process.

The cause of the fire was not immediately established. The Macon-Bibb Fire Department said an investigation into the outbreak was underway. In addition, a post-mortem examination would be conducted on the deceased older woman to ascertain what led to her death. The results would be indicated in the accident reports.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has requested anyone with useful information regarding the fire outbreak on 8925 Thomaston Road to get in touch with the area office, or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers.
