A woman who was involved in a two-vehicle accident on May 3 has died, accident reports state.
Sixty-eight-year-old Gloria Thurmond passed away on May 13 as a result of her injuries.
Athens-Clarke police confirmed the news about the former resident of Oglethorpe Avenue.
The crash that led to Thurmond’s death occurred on Atlanta Highway around 11:25 a.m. and it resulted in injuries to several people.
Police revealed some details about the accident.
They said 49-year-old Victoria Moon was driving a 2007 Ford Edge and she turned off Atlanta Highway toward the parking lot of Sam’s Club. She drove into the path of a Dodge Journey that was heading east.
Thurman was Moon’s passenger. Forty-seven-year-old Michael Hanlon of Athens was also in that vehicle. Moon, Hanlon, and Thurman were carried to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, 25-year-old Monroe resident Christopher Fletcher was driving the Dodge.
He and his passenger, Eleanor Garmon, a 54-year-old resident of Monroe were also taken to hospital by ambulance.
Police had not filed any charges up to Saturday morning. Any updates will be published in subsequent accident reports.
Police will continue their investigations into the matter and more information could be released.
This accident was Athens-Clarke County’s seventh fatality for the year so far.
The survivors of these victims may have grounds to file wrongful death lawsuits against the responsible parties.
