The Gwinnett County Police have, on Tuesday, May 26, revealed the identity of the victim of a crash that occurred in unincorporated Buford, Georgia. According to accident reports, the deceased is a 23-year-old male, Young Woo Kim.
An officer of the GCP, Corporal Michelle Pihera, gave further information about the crash. It occurred on Friday, May 22. The place of occurrence was Level Creek Road, close to Cabot Creek Way.
Reports state that the victim ran into the roadway, after which a Ford Escape hit him. Officers arrived at the accident scene and did not find any means of identification on Woo Kim. They rushed him to the hospital immediately. However, he died at the hospital the next day due to complications from the injuries he suffered.
The Ford Escape had two occupants, the driver, and a passenger. Both of them did not incur any injuries as a result of the crash. The police also said that there are no criminal charges against the driver at the moment.
The police remain puzzled as to the reason behind Woo Kim’s presence on the roadway when the crash occurred. Evidence and investigations point to alcohol, drugs, or both as being an influence on his behavior.
The police await the results of an autopsy, which they hope will shed more light on the cause of the fatal crash.
Accident reports show that DUI is a major cause of road collisions in Georgia. Patrol officers are always on the lookout for drivers who operate their vehicles while intoxicated. When caught and convicted, such drivers face lengthy jail terms of more severe punishment according to the law.
