A woman was fatally hit by a vehicle as she was checking her mail. The unfortunate incident took place in the Buckeye Valley in Maricopa County as per the initial accident reports. The victim was identified by the authorities as Nina Olsen aged 61. The collision which caused her death occurred on Monday, August 24.
According to the details shared by the authorities, Olsen was checking her mailbox at a location near Gopher and Narramore roads. As she did so, a car struck her. Olsen sustained critical injuries in the collision.
The incident was reported to the authorities at around 7 p.m. As the first responders and paramedics arrived on the scene of the crash, Olsen was rushed to the Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear. Attempts were made to revive and save her. But these failed and Olsen succumbed to her injuries. As per the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The collision happened west of the Estrella Mountain Ranch. A number of local agencies responded to the crash. The driver of the vehicle which struck Olsen stopped and remained on the scene. Police has not released the identity of the driver although it is confirmed that the driver is aged 24.
Investigations into the incident are still ongoing. For now, authorities are trying to determine exactly how the incident occurred. Common contributing factors such as alcohol and speeding have not been ruled out yet.
