On the morning of Wednesday, June 17th, a man died from injuries sustained in a head-on collision in north Phoenix, Arizona. The car accident report disclosed the victim’s identity as Lawrence Edward Griffin, 53.

According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department, the crash happened in the area of 24th and Dunlap Avenues a little before 8 a.m. The officer said that Griffin was driving a Chevy Cavalier east on Dunlap Avenue when he crossed the centre line directly into oncoming traffic for unknown reasons.

The Chevy collided with a Toyota RAV4 heading west on Dunlap Avenue, which left the man with fatal injuries. The medics pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, a 45-year-old woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The police closed the affected area while they gathered evidence and cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing to determine what caused Griffin to veer off his lane.

Motor vehicle accidents mostly occur due to the negligence of drivers, but at other times, environmental or medical factors may lead to a collision. The former might be adverse road conditions, debris on the roadway, adverse weather conditions like rain, snow, fog, or animal sighting. The latter might be an underlying medical condition like epilepsy or diabetes mellitus.

Drivers must mitigate the two by ensuring they are of sound mind and body before driving and do the latter with utmost care. Obeying traffic rules and keeping off the road when feeling unwell also reduces accidents.
