An 89-year-old woman was injured last week when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Peachtree Road outside the Atler at Brookhaven Apartments.
The victim has been identified as Sima Pevzner, according to Atlanta accident reports.
Fifty-three-year-old Patricia Warrington Long of Brookhaven has been arrested in connection with the accident. She is facing multiple charges.
Police say Pevzner was walking on the sidewalk when Long struck her and then left the scene.
Long reportedly drove onto the sidewalk when she pulled out of the apartment complex.
Bystanders gave police a description of Long and her Toyota Camry and she was found a short time later and taken into police custody.
Pevzner suffered serious injuries but Brookhaven police spokesman Sergeant David Snively said her injuries were not life-threatening.
Long, who has previously been arrested on DUI charges, is now accused of:
- Felony hit-and-run
- DUI (Alcohol)
- Serious injury by vehicle
- Driving while deemed a habitual violator
- Driving with a revoked or suspended license
- Obstructing a police officer
- Failure to maintain lane
She was taken to the DeKalb County Jail, accident reports state.
In Georgia, felony hit-and-run is punishable by up to five years in prison. Serious injury by vehicle is also a felony and it carries a maximum of 15 years in prison.
Pevzner has the right to seek advice from a car injury lawyer.
Police are still investigating the crash and anyone with information is asked to call Brookhaven police at 404-637-0748.
