People poured into a Cartersville, GA restaurant on Thursday night to help the family of a fallen Cartersville police officer.
Firehouse Subs hosted a fundraiser and all the proceeds will go straight to the family of Sarah Beth Barnes.
The 32-year-old Navy veteran and mom of five died from injuries sustained in a car wreck in late January. She was off duty at the time of the crash.
Barnes’ father, Scott Postell said people were lined up outside trying to get in and he was overwhelmed by the turnout.
He said his daughter cared about people and she touched many lives both as a police officer and as a friend.
He said many of the people who came out on Thursday didn’t even know her. They simply wanted to help.
One such person was Angela Nix who said she does what she can to help officers since her uncle was a cop and he passed four years ago.
Firehouse Subs representatives said they collected about $4,500 and they were pleased with the large turnout.
Back on January 30, Barnes was heading east on Highway 6 in her Kia Sorrento when she abruptly swerved into the median, overcorrected, and then swerved back into the eastbound lanes.
She again overcorrected and went into the westbound lanes, entering the path of a Jeep Renegade. The Jeep then slammed into the passenger side of Barnes’ car.
A Ford Fusion subsequently crashed into the back of the Jeep.
Barnes and the driver of the Ford were transported to WellStar Paulding Hospital while the driver of the Jeep was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Barnes was pronounced dead at the hospital.
