Authorities are investigating a tragic incident which occurred over the weekend and almost claimed a man’s life in Forsyth, Georgia. Accident reports released by the Forsyth Police Department confirmed the hospitalisation of a motorist who engaged in a shootout with patrol officers after crashing his vehicle on Saturday, May 16.

According to the reports, the incident played out late at night, in the area of Blount Street. Police said it began when officers got whiff of a domestic confrontation at 23 Clearview Avenue, involving the suspect. The man, identified as 27-year-old Deon Bowden, fled the scene before officers arrived.

Monroe County patrol officers followed Bowden in a chase through Forsyth, until he eventually slammed his car into several vehicles on Blount Street. Authorities said the man also collided with two patrol cruisers in his flight.

After they intercepted him, Bowden reportedly pulled out a pistol, prompting officers to fire multiple shots at him to stall his assault. No officer got harmed in the confrontation.

Meanwhile, medics administered life-saving measures on the injured motorist before transporting him to Navicent Medical Center for urgent medical attention. They listed him in critical condition, the accident reports affirmed. Police said they found the pistol the suspect was brandishing in his vehicle following a search.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the FPD and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an investigation into the incident.
