Effingham Health System to Honor Volunteer Margie Sullivan Who Was Hit by Car

For the first time in 50 years, volunteer Margie Sullivan hasn’t turned up to assist at Effingham Health System.

The beloved woman died on Saturday after she was hit by a car in Springfield, Effingham County, Georgia.

She was walking across Laurel Street to Mars Theater when she was struck.

Georgia State Patrol has revealed that it will not be filing charges against the driver since it was dark, and the victim was not on a crosswalk.

After hearing the news of Sullivan’s death on Monday, many, including personnel at Effingham Health System, are mourning her loss.

Chief Support Service at Effingham Health System Victoria Little said the long-serving volunteer would be missed.

She said workers were still trying to come to terms with her sudden loss, saying it caused a big impact on the organization.

Little worked with Sullivan for 40 years and considered her a mentor. She said she was known for her comforting nature, compassion, and service.

She noted that while Monday was tough for many in the health system, those in the care center were most impacted. This was where Sullivan spent most of her time.

The volunteer was honored last year at the system’s 50th anniversary celebration but Little said more would be done to ensure her memory lives on.

She said there was lots of literature and pictures with Sullivan and everyone coming into the organization would be able to remember her.

Staff members are working on coming up with a fitting tribute.
