An 11-year-old child sustained critical injuries in a boating accident, according to accident reports from Lake Sinclair, Georgia on Monday, June 1st. The authorities said that the accident occurred on Sunday, May 31st, and they’ve identified the injured girl as Tylee Miles, of Glennville, Tattnall County.
The initial report released by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division showed that the girl and unidentified others were riding a rubberized tube behind a pontoon boat. Sgt. Bo Kelly, a game warden, said in a press briefing that another pontoon vessel came at the one Miles was following.
When the two boats got to what he described as The Junction, which is the main hub of the Lake, on the eastern side of US Highway 441, at the mouth of the Oconee River and Little River, they collided. The impact caused a propeller under one of the boats to strike the victim, leaving her critically injured.
Kelly said Miles sustained multiple lacerations and broken bones down her right leg and described the little girl as someone lucky to be alive. He added that most boat propeller accidents end with the death of the victim.
The medics took the little girl to Sinclair Marina after the accident for immediate medical attention. The authorities flew the victim to The Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon for treatment. The doctors then transferred her to the Children’s Health Center in Atlanta.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and being handled by DNR detectives. For now, they have not ruled speed or alcohol as contributing factors. The investigators will provide the outcome in updated accident reports at a later date.
