An elderly woman was killed, and three people were taken to hospital following a crash in Milledgeville, Georgia on Wednesday morning.
The deceased is 86-year-old Mary Jane Beall. Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened around 7:10 a.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North Jefferson Street.
Beall was driving her Honda Accord along North Jefferson Street when she turned left onto MLK Jr. Drive. She was hit on the right side by a Chevy Tahoe driven by 21-year-old Devonta’ Edwards.
Edwards, a resident of Eatonton, was heading south on Jefferson Street.
The impact caused Beall’s vehicle to rotate and go south on Jefferson. It went off the east shoulder and crashed into a utility pole.
The elderly woman was transported to Navicent Health Baldwin, where she passed away.
Meanwhile, the Tahoe went on to hit a 2017 Nissan Versa which had stopped on MLK in the right turn lane. This caused the Nissan to turn on its right side with the driver Melba Minter and a 16-year-old passenger inside.
Edwards, Minter, and the young passenger were taken to Navicent Health Medical Center for their injuries.
Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Robbie Roberson said their injuries were not life-threatening.
Meanwhile, Cpl. Calvin Barton said a witness reported that Beall’s light was green, but she didn’t have a turn arrow and didn’t yield to the Tahoe.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to Beall’s obituary, she was a native and resident of Milledgeville. She was the chief executive officer of Barney’s Used Cars and Upholstery which she operated with her husband.
