A teenager met his end over the weekend while traveling in his bicycle, on a missionary assignment in Walker County, Georgia. Authorities said a hit-and-run motorist struck the young man on Saturday night, May 16, and the incident calls for the involvement of a bicycle accident attorney.

The Georgia State Patrol deployed troopers to the scene of the crash shortly after 9:30 p.m., following a report of an auto-bicycle collision. Reports released by the GSP confirmed the incident played out in Lafayette, close to the Euclid Chemical.

Responding officers gathered that the victim, identified as McKay Bergeson, 18, a native of Utah, was riding a trek mountain bicycle along Georgia 1. A male witness, riding alongside Bergeson in another bike told officers a vehicle suddenly approached them from behind and struck the rear of the victim’s bicycle. The impact caused the rider to crash into the paved surface off the state route.

GSP troopers said the motorist then fled the crash site, without stopping to assist the fallen cyclist. The teenager sustained fatal injuries in the collision, and the Walker County Coroner Steve Rogers pronounced him dead at the scene.

The witness, whose name remains withheld, described the vehicle as a four-door sedan. No detail about the motorist is available at this time.

Officers are on the lookout for the sedan, and it’s driver. An investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.

A bicycle accident attorney can help the victim’s family secure adequate compensation for their loss.
