Andres Bernal Faces DUI Charges for Hebron Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash

The man who caused the death of a 48-year-old male from Lake in the Hills would need a drunk driving attorney’s assistance to answer the charges against him. Andres Carbajal Bernal, was allegedly under the influence when the two-vehicle crash occurred in Hebron, Illinois, on Monday, August 24th.

McHenry County prosecutors charged the suspect with aggravated driving under the influence, four counts of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended driver’s license. A news release by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office failed to mention the fatal victim’s name.

The accident happened around 8:41 p.m., and it involved a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze and a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe. The two cars were southbound on Route 47. The police said that the Chevrolet, operated by Bernal, drove into the back of the Hyundai, causing the cars to go off the roadway.

The victim’s car struck a tree while that of the suspect overturned. The man died at the scene, while medics transported Bernal to Northwestern Medical Center in McHenry to treat minor injuries. After getting released from the hospital, deputies transported him to the McHenry County Correctional Facility.

The accident led to the closure of the 5100-block of Route 47 for about six hours. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and the sheriff’s office will release updates as events unfold.

Driving under the influence is a severe offense in California, and offenders face harsh punishments. Drivers must ensure that they have less than .08% BAC and, if impaired, seek alternative transportation.
