McDonough was the only person involved in the crash, according to authorities. He was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated and was cited with having open intoxicants in his vehicle.

Car accident reports state McDonough was taken to the Cass County Jail and was released Tuesday morning. He is due back in court May 21, authorities said.

McDonough is St. Joseph County’s prosecuting attorney, meaning he is the “chief law enforcement official for St. Joseph County,” according to the county website. He oversees a team of three assistant prosecutors, who oversee criminal charges and juvenile delinquency cases, as well as mental health commitment hearings.

It is unclear whether McDonough will face any work-related disciplinary actions in connection to the incident. Car accident reports available Tuesday don’t include details about the circumstances of the crash.
