Sebastian Dean Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter After Death of Samuel Williams

A man is now facing charges after he was accused of driving while intoxicated and crashing into a telephone pole. Police said the March 13 accident eventually led to the death of a passenger who was traveling in his car.

According to the Austin Police Department, 23-year-old Sebastian Michael Dean was traveling south at a high rate of speed in the 2300 block of S. First St. around 1:30 a.m.

He reportedly ran a red light at the corner of South First Street and Oltorf Street and then his 2017 dark gray Cadillac CTS collided with a telephone pole.

His passenger, Samuel Adam Williams, was taken to St. David’s South Austin Hospital with severe injuries. He subsequently died early in the morning on March 23.

Sebastian Dean was first arrested and charged with intoxication assault. However, police say he now faces an intoxication manslaughter charge as well.

Anyone who has information about the case has been asked to call APD at 512-974-4278. They can also submit tips by downloading and using APD’s mobile app.

This crash was the 21st fatal crash in Austin for the year so far. These crashes have claimed the lives of twenty-two people.

In comparison, the Austin Police Department said there were ten fatal traffic accidents at this same point in 2019.

In Texas, intoxication manslaughter is a second-degree felony and it carries a penalty of two to 20 years in prison. Convicted people also face a fine of up to $10,000 and mandatory community service.
