A teenage boy from Rincon died in a single-vehicle crash on Zittrouer Road in Effingham County on Monday. According to accident reports, three of his peers who he was transporting also suffered injuries.
Georgia State Patrol said 16-year-old Franklin Davis was killed in the crash that took place just after 5 p.m. He was a student at Effingham County High School.
Three other teens were seriously injured.
The State Patrol identified them as 13-year-old Kassidy Avery, 16-year-old Cutter Avery, and 19-year-old Darius Prescott.
They were all transported to Memorial Hospital.
Eyewitnesses said Davis was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of a 2005 Honda Accord as he came upon a slight curve in the road.
GSP spokeswoman Lt. Stephanie L. Stallings disclosed that the car struck a mailbox at 906 Zittrouer Road, hit two other mailboxes and a ditch, and then went airborne. The car flipped over before landing some 30 yards away.
Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Gena Sullivan revealed that one teen died while another was in critical condition and two others received “pretty serious injuries”.
Stallings said Prescott was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.
No updated information was provided on the boys’ conditions by Thursday.
When the crash occurred, the weather was said to be clear and sunny.
Law enforcement officials will continue to investigate the crash and additional information could be published in subsequent accident reports.
